Title A Story about a Child and a Robot Getting Acquainted
Abstract Designing social AI systems is more than only developing the technology. It is also about finding out how these social AI systems can reach their full potential. Initially, social robots are loved by many. However, after a while the novelty effect wears off and the robot is left in its box. Similar patterns can be found in many behavior change support systems and other social AI systems. Facilitating long-term interactions is one of the main challenges in the field of social AI. It all has to start somewhere. This talk is about the interaction design of an autonomous social robot getting acquainted with pediatric oncology patients, with the end goal to provide long-term support. Note: this talk is a practice run for a conference presentation (AAMAS 2019)
