Abstract |
Social support specific to physical activity can provide the motivation for insufficiently physically active people, but in our opinion this technique has not reached its full potential in physical activity smartphone apps interventions, and it is most often offered in form of virtual support. In addition, the fitness apps usually target the general population, and are not tailored towards the specific needs of the population group that has difficulties getting motivated. Responding to this, we developed the Social Coaching app, an Android app offering more personalised social support experience for insufficiently physically active users, that besides the virtual support, aims to promote real life contact and support between people. This talk discusses the details behind the app's design choices, where the focus is on using social support and other social processes as main behaviour change techniques. |
