Title : Provenance In and Outside the Database

Presenter Paul Groth
Abstract Domains such as drug discovery, web science, and policy studies increasing rely on the combination of complex analysis pipelines with integrated data sources to come to conclusions. A key question then arises is what are these conclusions based upon? (i.e. what is their provenance?). In this talk, I describe recent work that is attempting to combine provenance within databases with the data integration and analytics pipelines that feed them. In particular, how can we mix the concepts of dataset description, provenance polynomials and Web-based provenance models. I discuss this with respect to large scale drug discovery platform, Open PHACTS (http://www.openphacts.org), that combines tens of databases with billions of facts.

Title : AAL4Wellbeing and the ABCC Living Lab

Presenter Peter Roelofsma
Abstract In this talk I will explain the why and how of the ABCC Living Lab in particular in the context of the AAL4Wellbeing system which has been developed in the Living Lab. The main goal of the AAL4Wellbeing system was to develop an adaptive and easily expandable ICT solution that addresses human universal needs of: physical well being, autonomy, connection, play and meaning. The system integrates several of our earlier systems that focused on the need for physical activity, self management and friendship enrichment. To emphasize the benefit and convenience for the user, a digital 3D coach is introduced that mediates person input and system output. The system consists of a home-based and a mobile component, integrating off-the-shelf technology (e.g., bio-signal sensors, ambient sensors, localization and activity sensors, dynamic, flexible and customizable home infrastructure) and builds on existing structures (e.g., digital television sets, Internet access), thus permitting an individually tailored approach. The integrated A²E² approach that was realized is based upon the following five principles: Active end user involvement; Behavioural focus; Mobility; Adaptivity and scalability; Multifaceted Motivational approach for user acceptance.
