Title : The good and the bad about the robot baby project

Presenter Guszti Eiben
Abstract here was much fuss about the Robot Baby Project in the Dutch media and via TechCrunch the news went international as well. http://techcrunch.com/2016/05/31/robots-date-mate-and-procreate-3d-printed-offspring-in-robot-baby-project/ The Robot Baby Movie gained 30 thousand views on the VU/Science youtube channel in just a week and a half, which is probably an all time high. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfcVSb-Q8ns In this talk I will reflect on the project, discussing the scientific, technical, as well as promotional aspects - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Title : Using known application paradigms to facilitate the use of Linked Data

Presenter Niels Ockeloen
Abstract Known application paradigms of which the general workings and functionality are well understood, can be used to facilitate consuming, producing, sharing and maintaining Linked Data. As such, they can help harmonising the data management within organisations, as well as improving data interoperability between them. One of these paradigms is the Content Management System. I will describe the current status of Data 2 Documents; content management based on RDF. I will discuss what role d2d can play for managing the data within an organisation and how GUI components contribute to that. Central question there is how to abstract away from data modelling and editing complexity without losing too much functionality. To conclude I will pitch an additional application paradigm; RDF based spreadsheets, based on ‘Active RDF Nodes’; a hybrid of dereferenceable RDF data sources and Web services that can function as small building blocks to build Semantic Web applications.
